Paolo Pola

Count Paolo Luigi Pola (born February 10, 1773 in Treviso ; † December 3, 1841 there ) was an Italian poet and opera librettist . He was chamberlain to the viceroy in the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy .

Paolo Luigi came from the old Italian noble family of the Counts Pola , who had also had a Bohemian line since 1607 . Some members of the family were patrons of the arts, such as Frá Camillo Graf Pola, who u. a. Antonio Vivaldi and Tomaso Albinoni supported. Pietro Lombardo , Giorgio Massari , Lorenzo Lotto , Giovanni Antonio Canal and Paris Bordone also worked for members of the family .

Life

Count Paolo Pola was one of the leading figures in Treviso during the Napoleonic era . He worked with the French government and in 1807 became a knight of the Order of the Iron Crown and chamberlain at the court of the Italian viceroy ("ciambellano della corte del viceré") .

When Napoleon Bonaparte visited Treviso , he and Joseph Bonaparte , Louis Berthier , Joachim Murat and Géraud Christophe Michel Duroc took part in an honorary meal hosted by Pola.

After the defeat of Napoleon, Paolo Pola withdrew from politics and began to write poetry. He also wrote several libretti that were set to music by important Italian composers such as Saverio Mercadante , Giuseppe Persiani , Stefano Pavesi , Pietro Generali and Giovanni Pacini . He died in Treviso and was buried in Fanzolo near the family villa.
