Life

Little is known about life and work. His father Stefano comes from Treviso and was probably a cabinet maker, in whose workshop Giorgio worked as a boy. It is not exactly known who introduced him to architecture. It is believed that he was a student of Andrea Tirali . Between 1719 and 1721 he seems to have been busy building the Villa Pola in Barcon. In 1734 Paolo Tamagnin died, his first client, who made Massari a universal heir with the condition that a large part of the proceeds be used for the restoration of the Church of San Giovanni in Bragora . In 1735 he married the widow Tamagnin and moved into her house. In 1737 he became the "Proto" (for example cathedral builder) ofSan Marco appointed. He died on December 20, 1766 in his house on Campiello del Piovan and was buried in the church of San Giovanni in Bragora.

Works

Massari is a direct successor to Andrea Palladio and Baldassare Longhena . In the later years he began to use classical elements in his buildings.
