The paradise lilies ( Paradisea ) or funnel lilies are a genus of plants in the subfamily of the agave family (Agavoideae) within the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). They were also sometimes in the family of asphodeloideae classified (Asphodelaceae).

The Paradisea species grow as perennial herbaceous plants and reach heights of 30 to 50 cm. The upright stems are leafless. Of the grass-like, linear basal leaves , the sheathed leaf base encompasses the stem.
The one-sided, racemose inflorescences are two to ten flowers . The bracts are pointed and the stem encompassing. The short-stalked flowers are, hermaphroditic, funnel-shaped and threefold. They have six white, similarly shaped bloom cladding ( tepals ) and six stamens , a stylus with thickened scar (formed from three fused carpels ).
Systematics
The genus Paradisea was created in 1811 by the Italian botanist Giovanni Mazzucato (1787-1814) with the type Paradisea hemeroanthericoides Mazzuc. in Viaggio Botanico all'Alpi Giulie .... , p. 27. With the generic name Paradisea , Giovanni Mazzucato honored his patron, Count Giovanni Conte Paradisi (1760–1826) from Modena . He was an Italian man of letters and natural scientist, lecturer in mathematics, geometry and geodesy at the Lyceum in Reggio nell'Emilia .
There are only about two species of Paradisea :

- Portuguese funnel lily ( Paradisea lusitanica (Cout.) Samp. , Syn .: Paradisea liliastrum var. Lusitanica Cout. )
