Paradrina rebeli is a butterfly ( moth ) fromthe owl butterfly family (Noctuidae). The species is endemic to the Canary Islands .
features
The moths reach a wingspan of 26 to 31 millimeters. The basic color of the fore wings varies from gray to brown; but there are also darkened specimens. The dark inner transverse line is weakly wavy to jagged. The outer transverse line, on the other hand, is largely dissolved and consists only of individual dark spots. The middle shadow is also only indistinct. The dark kidney flaws are very clear, the ring flaws are small and indistinct. In contrast, the dark wavy line at the outer end is usually well developed, with individual arrow spots. It is often highlighted in brown on the outside. The hemline is covered with black spots. There are three black spots on the front edge of the forewing. The hind wings are light brown to cream in color with a slightly darker hemline.
Way of life
The species flies in several generations all year round. The caterpillar is polyphagous .
Occurrence and distribution
The species is endemic to the Canary Islands La Palma , El Hierro , La Gomera , Tenerife , Gran Canaria , Fuerteventura and Lanzarote . It occurs there from the moister coastal regions to higher altitudes.
Systematics
The species was described in 1901 by Otto Staudinger as a subspecies of the Sandflur-Staubeule ( Paradrina selini ). Caradrina rebeli lapalmae Pinker, 1962, Caradrina rebeli grancanariae Pinker, 1962, Caradrina lanzarotensis Pinker, 1962, Caradrina lanzarotensis fuerteventurensis Pinker & Bacallado, 1975 and Caradrina rebeli hierrensis Pinker, 1969 are now considered synonymous with Paradrina rebeli Paradrina Pinker, 1969 . The species is placed there in the genus Caradrina ; Paradrina Boursin, 1937 is placed as a sub-genus to Caradrina Ochsenheimer, 1816.
