Hellmut Walters

Hellmut Walters (born January 9, 1930 in Obersekerschan / Stříbro district ( Czechoslovakia ), † June 8, 1985 in Passau ) was a German writer .

Life

Hellmut Walters grew up in Czechoslovakia; his home district was incorporated into the German Reich under the Munich Agreement in 1938 as " Landkreis Mies " . Walters attended a grammar school in Pilsen during World War II . After the end of the war he had to work temporarily in agriculture and a quarry near Marienbad . In 1946 he was expelled from Czechoslovakia. He reached Nuremberg via Hesse and Schwabach . There he attended the Realgymnasium , where he passed his matriculation examination in 1949 . He then studied German , English , history and philosophy at universities in Passau , Tübingen , Marburg and Erlangen . In 1959 he received his doctorate in philosophy with a thesis on Franz Werfel in Erlangen . Walters worked as a high school teacher in Bamberg and from 1967 in Passau. In addition to his work as a teacher, he created an extensive literary work.

Hellmut Walters was the author of novels , short stories , essays , aphorisms and poems .

Hellmut Walters was a member of the German PEN Center , the authors' association " Die Kogge ", the Esslingen Artists' Guild , the Regensburg Writers' Group International and the Sudeten German Academy of Sciences and Arts . He received u. a. In 1965 the literary prize of the Sudeten German Landsmannschaft , in 1968 the advancement prize for the Andreas Gryphius Prize and in 1975, 1978 and 1980 the radio play and storytelling prize of the East German Cultural Council Foundation .
