The Parish of Saint Phillip , also St. Phillip's Parish , mostly St. Phillip’s for short , often also written St. Philip , is a parish of the Caribbean island state of Antigua and Barbuda .
geography
The parish covers the southwest of the island of Antigua . It encompasses the two eastern peninsulas of Antigua, which are separated by Nonsuch Bay , including the neighboring islands, and extends about 7 km north-south from Mercers Creek Bay to the south coast around Willoughby Bay , and about 10 km west- East from the Central Plain to the island of Green Island , where the Man of War Point is the eastern tip of Antigua. With about 44 km² it has 1 ⁄ 10 of the land area of the state and a good 1 ⁄ 6 of the island of Antigua.
The population is around 3,500, just under 1 ⁄ 25 (4%) of the state residents and 1 ⁄ 20 (5%) of those Antiguas, of which 3100 are locals (population, 90%). The Parish has 1000 households, the average size is a 3-person household (2011: 3.1), which is slightly above the national average (3.0). The population density is around 80 inhabitants per km² (land around 150, Antigua almost 250), the southeast of Antigua is only sparsely populated and the structurally weakest area of the island. It belongs to the less fertile limestone region of the north and east of the island ( Limestone region ) . The limestone forms two barren plateaus on both sides of Nonsuch Bay, the southern one breaks off in an approximately 100 meter high ridge against the Central Plain around Bethesda and the sea at Nonsuch Bay.
Regional centers are Willikies in the north and Freetown in the south.
history
The parishes are the highest administrative units of the monarchy, they represent the historical parish districts that are widespread in the Anglo-Saxon area as a rural administrative division . The main church of this parish was today's church of St. Philip's Rectory in St. Phillips .
Historically, the region was divided into the Belfast Division in the north and Nonsuch Division in the south. These two and the eastern parts of Willoughby Bay Division were in 1873 also administratively as Parish of Saint Paul confirmed (Parish Boundaries Act) .
The space was and is still partly farmland, partly wilderness. After the abolition of slavery in 1834 was to Freetown a freedman-settlement that time, the largest town on the island was around 1850, shortly after the abolition of slavery, the Parish includes the property ( Estates ) Rooms, Parson Maule, Collins, Glanvilles, Grants, Sion Hill, Mayers, Retreat, Comfort Hall, Grays, Wickhams, Elliotts, Long Lane, Gaynors, Elmes, Gobles, Lower Walronds, Lyons, Lavingstons, Ffrys, Montpellier, Archbolds and Browns, Skerrets, Colebrooks, Upper Walronds, Harmans, Mannings , Hope, Watsons, Lynches, Sheriffs and Mangroves - some of the farms still exist today as localities, and some of them have become the core of a settlement - as well as The Rectory (today St. Phillips) Farrs Hill Village (Freetown), Seatons, Newfield, Willoghby Bay, Wilkies, Mayers, Salters, McCay Lands, Sandy Ground, Brooks Land and Grays Hill - these places only partially exist today, some of them were given up after the great Antilles earthquake in 1843 .
In the late 20th century, a number of luxury hotels and high-end residential resorts emerged on the coasts, but they are largely isolated, especially in the southern part (Half Moon Bay, Mill Reef Club, Brown's Bay Resort, Crossroads Center) and made little contribution to economic development. The local population decreased by 2.4% in 2001-2011, St. Phillip is the only parish in the country with a negative balance, a typical rural exodus phenomenon, while the total population increased by 4% (influx of over 200 permanent guests).

Villages are also explicitly mentioned there.
