Parliamentary elections in Egypt 1984

Parliamentary elections were held in Egypt on May 27, 1984 .

Changes have been made to the electoral system since the last election in 1979. The 176 two-member constituencies have been replaced by 48 multi-member constituencies (a total of 448 seats), with candidates being elected through a party list system and a threshold of 8% of the vote to win a seat.

The result was a victory for the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP), which won 390 of the 448 seats. The only opposition party that could win seats was the New Wafd Party . After this election, President Husni Mubarak appointed 10 more members of the People's Assembly ; one from the NDP, four from the Socialist Labor Party , one from the National Progressive Unionist Party and four Copts . The turnout was 43.1%.
