The Partia për Drejtësi, Integrim dhe Unitet ( Albanian for “Party for Justice, Integration and Unity”; acronym: PDIU ) is a political party in Albania . She claims to be the Çamen's lobbyist . The Çamen are an Albanian-speaking ethnic group who originally lived in what is now the Greek part of Epirus . Most of the Çamen were expelled from their traditional homeland to Albania between 1913 and 1945.

history

In 2005 the Partia për Drejtësi dhe Integrim (PDI) was founded, which campaigned for the integration of the displaced into the whole Albanian society and for the maintenance of their folk culture in today's Albania. She demanded that the Çamen property that had been expropriated in Greece be returned or compensated. The PDI tries to influence Albanian foreign policy in this direction. Tahir Muhedini was chairman of the PDI until 2011.

In May 2009, the PDI joined the right-wing electoral alliance led by the Democrats after Prime Minister Sali Berisha declared that he supported the çami's claims for compensation against Greece. In the elections in June of that year, the PDI won a mandate.

On February 17, 2011, the Partia për Drejtësi dhe Integrim and the Partia për Drejtësi dhe Unitet merged in the capital Tirana to form Partia për Drejtësi, Integrim dhe Unitet. Both parties were quite similar in their ideology and, according to their own statements, were representatives of the Çamen interests. The PDIU is now continuing the policy of the two formerly separate parties. With the merger, Shpëtim Idrizi became chairman.

Current representations

In the parliamentary elections of 2013 , the PDIU was part of the right-wing party alliance Alliance for Work, Welfare and Integration (Aleanca për Punësim, Mirëqenie dhe Integrim) led by the Democratic Party . The PDIU won four seats. During the legislative period, the four PDIU MPs left the opposition in spring 2015 and joined the governing coalition made up of the PS and LSI . Party leader Idrizi was subsequently elected Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

In the local elections in June 2015, the PDIU ran together with the governing parties in an electoral alliance. The PDIU caused a bit of a stir after the election for the municipal assembly of the capital Tirana . With the representative Albina Nanaj, a veiled woman is sitting for the first time in an Albanian city assembly.

Political positions

National issues

The most important goal of the party remains the clarification of national questions of the Albanians. On the one hand, the PDIU campaigns very strongly for the rights of Albanians outside of state borders. For the Albanians in Macedonia, the party demands the consistent implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement . For Kosovo , the PDIU expects the Albanian state to lobby for international recognition . On the other hand, the PDIU is striving to bring the case of the Çamen to the international stage. She wants to ensure that the Çamen either have their property returned or that they receive compensation. The right to return to their old homeland should also be secured.

The establishment of a diaspora ministry is envisaged to support the Albanians abroad.

economy

The PDIU is for a social market economy. A uniform economic area for the whole of Albania, which includes Albania as well as Kosovo and Western Macedonia, should contribute to the implementation of the national goals.

Foreign policy

The party supports Albania's membership of NATO and the aspired EU membership . The United States is seen by the PDIU as the most important partner of Albania, which is why a stronger relationship between the EU and the USA is desired.
