Executive Committee of the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party
from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The party executive of the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party ( 自由 民主党 執行 部 , jiyū-minshu-tō shikkōbu ) consists in the narrower sense of the party chairman and the "three [important] party offices" ( 党 三 役 , tō- san'yaku ): the general secretary, the Chairman of the Executive Board and the Chairman of the Political Research Council. The chairman of the committee for parliamentary affairs and the chairman and general secretary of the upper house group also play an important role in the work of the LDP parliamentary groups.
During the almost continuous rule of the LDP between 1955 and 2009, the party chairman was usually involved in government affairs as Prime Minister . The allocation of leading positions in the party, together with the ministerial posts in the cabinet, was a means of maintaining the balance of power between the factions . The three management positions were mostly assigned to three different factions.
Between 2007 and 2008 under the sōri-sōsai (party chairman-prime minister) Fukuda Yasuo and Asō Tarō , the chairman of the electoral strategy commission Koga Makoto ( Koga faction ) was also counted among the inner circle of leaders, which at this time consequently "held the four party offices" ( tōyon ' yaku ).
Historic occupation
As a rule, the LDP reshuffled the cabinet and the party leadership simultaneously or in close chronological order, with direct changes between the two being frequent. After the election of a new party chairman, the party executive committee was often replaced at the same time as the new cabinet was presented.
