Mutō Kabun

Mutō Kabun ( Japanese 武 藤 嘉文 ; born November 18, 1926 in Kakamigahara , Gifu Prefecture ; † November 4, 2009 in Tokyo ) was a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), member of the Shūgiin and 1993 foreign minister of his country.

Mutō studied at the University of Kyoto and in 1967 became a member of the Shūgiin for the 1st constituency of Gifu. He was then re-elected 13 times until he declared his retirement from politics in 2005. Within the party, he belonged to the Nakasone faction . Mutō belonged to four cabinets: In the 2nd Cabinet Ōhira he was Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries from 1979 to 1980 , in 1990 in the 2nd Cabinet Kaifu Minister for International Trade and Industry . In April 1993 he replaced the sick Foreign Minister Michio Watanabe in the Miyazawa cabinet . From 1996 to 1997 Mutō belonged to the 2nd Hashimoto cabinet as head of the authority for management and coordination .

Mutō's grandfather Kamon was a Shūgiin MP in the Empire ( Kenseikai / Minseitō ) and after the war the first elected Governor of Gifu Prefecture , his father Kaichi Shūgiin MP from Gifu, his son Yōji from 2005 to 2009 LDP Shūgiin MP from Gifu.
