The Social Democratic Party ( French : Parti Social-Démocrate , abbreviation: PSD-Bassira ) is a political party in Niger .

history

The founding of the Social Democratic Party was initiated in 2015 by Mohamed Ben Omar , a founding member of the Alliance for Democracy and Progress (RDP-Jama'a) party. Ben Omar had previously unsuccessfully sought to succeed Hamid Algabid as party chairman of the RDP-Jama'a.

Mohamed Ben Omar took over the chairmanship of the Social Democratic Party, and Ibrahim Kasso became General Secretary . The founding congress of the party took place on December 5, 2015 in Zinder . In the 2016 general election , she won two of 171 seats in the National Assembly . In the 2016 presidential election , the Social Democratic Party supported incumbent Mahamadou Issoufou of the Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism (PNDS-Tarayya).

Founding party chairman Ben Omar died on May 3, 2020 of complications from a COVID-19 illness.
