Pasquale Sarullo

Pasquale Sarullo (born April 6, 1828 in Ciminna , † April 22, 1893 in Palermo ) was an Italian Franciscan priest and painter in Sicily .

Life

In his early years, Sarullo closed the Minoritenbrüdern in Ciminna. Later he went to Palermo, where he joined the Franciscan convent there and took lessons from Giuseppe Patania and Salvatore Lo Forte .

Through a picture of Mary, which he dedicated to King Ferdinand II , he received a scholarship from him so that he could continue his studies in Naples and Rome . In the Tiber city, he dealt with the great Renaissance painters such as Perugino , Raffael , Pinturicchio and Fra Angelico , who had a lasting impact on his painting style.

Sarullo was also in great demand as a portraitist, for example Maria Christina of Savoy , the Marchese Forcelli, bishops and numerous Franciscan friars were his models.

In 1865 he exhibited the painting of a “Crucifixion” to Palazzo Comitini in Palermo, which was awarded a medal.

But mainly he created images of the Madonna and saints for numerous churches, often in Palermo and the western part of Sicily. In Palermo he painted in the San Francesco d'Assisi , the Santa Chiara and the Sant Antonio Abate . But he also received orders from churches on the Italian mainland from Bologna to Foligno .

He died in Palermo while working in the Chiesa di San Francesco.
