Pat O'Leary (* around 1955) is an American jazz musician ( double bass , composition ) who often works in the field of mainstream jazz .

Pat O'Leary, who is from Buffalo, studied piano and double bass at the Crane School of Music at Potsdam State University , from which he graduated with a bachelor's degree in music. From the late 1970s he was active in the New York jazz scene; first recordings were made in 1980 with accordionist and guitarist Ray Rivera ( Let Me Hear Some Jazz ). In the following years he played in the bands of Illinois Jacquet , Teri Thornton , JR Monterose / Hugh Brodie ( Bebop Loose & Live , 1981), Pete Malinverni , Lionel Hampton ( Sentimental Journey ), Scott Robinson ,Hal Galper ( Just Us enja , 1993, with Jerry Bergonzi ), Michael Rabinowitz , Bruce Barth and Paul Lindemeyer .

In 2000, O'Leary took part in recordings by Mundell Lowe and Hendrik Meurkens in Hamburg ( Mundell's Moods , Nagel-Heyer ). In the 2000s and 2010s he worked a. a. with Harry Whitaker , Kayo Hiraki , Harry Allen and Dan Block . In the field of jazz he was involved in 39 recording sessions between 1980 and 2015, most recently in the formation The Heliosonie Tonetette around Scott Robinson (with Philip Harper , Frank Lacy , Tim Newman , JD Parran , Marshall Allen , Yosvany Terry , Danny Ray Thompson and Matt Wilson ). Their production Heliosonic Toneways Vol. 1 was a reinterpretation of Sun Ra's album Heliocentric Worlds from 1965. In 2010 O'Leary presented the album Live at Space Farms with Scott Robinson, Marshall Allen and Kevin Norton ; In 2016 he performed with the Bob Dorough Quartet. With Gabrielle Stravelli he wrote the song "Cake of My Childhood".
