Patricia Kennealy-Morrison (* 4. March 1946 as Patricia Kennely in Brooklyn , New York ; † 23. July 2021 in New York) was an American writer , journalist and rock critic.

Life

She spent her youth on Long Island in the village of North Babylon . As the eldest of four children, two girls and two boys, she grew up in a strictly traditional Irish Catholic family. Her father was a prisoner of war in Germany during the Second World War and after his return he took on a managerial role in a local armaments factory. Her mother worked as a watercolor and glass painter.

Still under the name Kennely, she attended college in western New York State . She then spent two years at St. Bonaventure University , where she majored in journalism . She then went to Harpur College (now Binghamton University ), where she graduated in June 1967 with a bachelor's degree in English literature. After graduating, she moved to New York City, where she initially worked as an editorial assistant for a local publisher. From 1968 to 1971 she was editor-in-chief of the nationwide magazine Jazz & Pop , making her one of the first female rock critics in the 1960s. In this position she met Jim Morrison , the singer of the American band The Doors , for the first time in January 1969 , with whom she conducted an interview. After the interview, a close friendship began between them. Kennely married Morrison on June 24, 1970 in the presence of two witnesses in a Celtic wedding ceremony ( handfasting ). Kennely said she had the wedding documents signed by all four present in her possession. According to the law, this marriage was not legally effective. In 1979 she had her last name legally changed from "Kennely" to "Kennealy" in order to preserve her Celtic heritage. In addition, before the law, she took on the name "Morrison", which she had been using since marriage.

She last lived as a writer in New York City. She was, among other things, the author of the fantasy series Keltiade (including Die Kupferkrone; Der Silberzweig; Des Falken Graue Feder). Her biography of Doors singer Jim Morrison Strange Days - My Life with Jim Morrison was praised by the press as the "first good book" about the rock star.

In Oliver Stone's film The Doors , she served as a consultant and played a small role as the high priestess who married Jim and Patricia (played by Val Kilmer and Kathleen Quinlan ). After the screening of the film, she sharply criticized the portrayal of Morrisons. The author was a member of the Templar Order and a priestess in a Celtic circle.
