Patrick Schreiber (born November 8, 1979 in Dresden ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He was a city councilor in his home town of Dresden from 2004 to September 2, 2010 and was a member of the Saxon state parliament between 2009 and 2019 .

Life

Schreiber completed his school education in 1998 with the Abitur at the Dresden Romain-Rolland-Gymnasium and then did his basic military service in Bayreuth , Holzdorf and Dresden until 1999 . He majored in Modern History and the minor subjects Romance Studies (Spanish) - Cultural Studies and Political Science at the TU Dresden and successfully completed his studies in 2007 with a Magister Artium . From 2008 to 2010 he was managing partner of an event & marketing agency in Dresden.

At the age of 17, Schreiber joined the Junge Union in 1996 . The following year he joined the CDU. From 1998 to 2000 he was chairman of the Saxon regional association of the student union. From 1999 to 2009 Schreiber was a member of the state board of the Junge Union Sachsen & Lower Silesia, including four years as deputy state chairman.

From 2003 to 2019, Schreiber was chairman of the CDU local association in Dresden-Neustadt. From 2001 to 2004 he worked on the lowest local political level in the Dresden-Neustadt local council (since 2018: city council) and was elected to the Dresden city council for the first time in 2004. In the local elections in 2009, he was re-elected to this body. In September 2010, he resigned and resigned from the Dresden city council at his own request. However, until 2017 he was still a member of the Dresden Youth Welfare Committee. From 2010 to 2018 Schreiber was chairman of the Dresden medium-sized and business association of the CDU / CSU and since 2015 deputy district chairman of the CDU Dresden.

In the state elections on August 30, 2009, he entered the Saxon state parliament for the first time as a direct candidate for the CDU in constituency 45 (Dresden 3) . In the state elections in 2014 he defended his constituency in Dresden and moved back into the state parliament. From 2009 to 2014 he was youth policy spokesman for his group. Furthermore, from 2012 to 2014 he was chairman of the first NSU investigative committee of the Saxon state parliament and was deputy chairman of the second investigative committee on criminal and corrupt networks in Saxony (" Sachsensumpf "). He was also a member of the second NSU investigation committee from 2015 in the state parliament.

Schreiber was also a member of the committees for social affairs and consumer protection as well as schools and sports. He has been chairman of the latter since 2014. Schreiber was the spokesman for care policy for the CDU parliamentary group and, in this capacity, also chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the inquiry commission “Care of the Elderly” of the Saxon parliament.

Since 2009 he has been a member of the state youth welfare committee, which he has also chaired since 2015. He is also the curator of the Saxon State Center for Political Education .

In the refugee crisis in Europe from 2015 onwards , he and other CDU politicians criticized Chancellor Angela Merkel's course.

Schreiber has announced that he will not seek another mandate in the 2019 state elections and will withdraw from politics.
