Patrik Sundström (born December 14, 1961 in Skellefteå ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played for the Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League from 1978 to 1994 .

Career

Patrik Sundström began his career as an ice hockey player at IF Björklöven , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Elitserien in the 1978/79 season . With his team, the attacker lost to AIK Ishockey in the finals of the Swedish championship in the 1981/82 season . He was then ordered to North America by the Vancouver Canucks , who had selected him in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft in the ninth round as 175th player, where he scored 23 goals in a total of 78 games in his rookie year in the National Hockey League for the Canadians scored and gave as many assists. After five years with the Canucks, the Swede was given up on September 15, 1987 together with a second and fourth round suffrage in the NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Kirk McLean , Greg Adams and a second round suffrage to the New Jersey Devils , for which he also five Was on the ice for seasons. He also completed a game in the American Hockey League for New Jersey's farm team , the Utica Devils, in the 1991/92 season .

In the summer of 1992 Sundström returned to his Swedish homeland, where he received a contract with his ex-club IF Björklöven from Division 1 , which was then still second class , with which he achieved promotion to the Elitserien. In this, the center scored eleven points scorer in 16 games in the 1993/94 season, including four goals, before ending his career.

International

For Sweden Sundström took part in the U20 World Junior Championships in 1980 and 1981 . He was also in Sweden's squad at the 1981 and 1982 World Championships .

family

Sundström's father Elon and his twin brother Peter were professional ice hockey players, as was his uncle Kjell . His son Alexander played at Brynäs IF in the Swedish Elitserien .
