Patritius Oswald (* 1657 or 1658 ; † September 3, 1740 ) was provost of the Augustinian Canon monastery in Rottenbuch , a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau .

Life

Patritius Oswald was provost of the monastery from 1700 until his death in 1740. He arranged for the alteration of the altars in the nave of the monastery church and erected new altars for the transepts. He also had some of the churches incorporated into the monastery re-equipped. Joseph Schmuzer was appointed monastery builder under Patritius Oswald in 1735 .

After Patritius Oswald's death, an epitaph was erected for him in the monastery church , which was created by Anton Sturm from Füssen . The inscription under the relief image reads:

Rms. PERILLUSTRIS. ET AMPLISS. DD PATRITIUS OSWALD HUIUS COLLEGII PRAEPOSITUS VIGILANTISSIMUS ABBAS LATERANENSIS ET ARCHIDIACONUS NATUS OBIIT III. SEPT. ANNO MDCCXL AETAT: LXXXII. REGIM. XL .
"The venerable and illustrious Lord, Mr. Patritius Oswald, vigilant provost of this monastery, Lateran abbot and born archdeacon, died on September 3, 1740 at the age of 82 in the 40th year of his term of office".

His successor as provost was Clemens Prasser .
