Paul-François Grossetti (* 10. September 1861 in Paris ; † 7. January 1918 ) was a French General de division in the First World War .

Life

Grossetti was born as the son of the father of the same name, who came from Grosseto-Prugna in Corsica . After attending school in Ajaccio , he entered the Saint-Cyr Military School in 1879 . From 1881 to 1885 he served as a Sous-lieutenant in the 2e regiment de Zouaves in Africa. He was then sent to Indochina, where he took part in the Tonkin campaign . He fell ill with dysentery in the same year and was sent back to France in September, where Charles Louis Jacques Régnault took up his post . He died in Paris in January 1918 at the age of 56. His grave is in the Père Lachaise cemetery .

A bust was erected for him in Grosseto-Prugna, and a bronze statue in Ajaccio (both made by the sculptor Henri Bouchard ). In 1932, a street was named after him in Paris's 16th arrondissement .
