The son of an architect (mainly in the church born in operation), he studied after his Abitur 1864-1871 civil engineering at the Technical University of Toulouse and the Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures in Paris (now École centrale Paris ). After completing his studies, he worked for the Société de Construction des Batignolles (founded by Ernest Goüin , now Spie Batignolles ) until 1883 , where he soon became a senior engineer . This planning office around the engineer Ernest Goüin built several well-known bridges in Europe and Australia during this time , such as the Margaret Bridge in Budapest in 1876 .

From 1870 he was acquainted with a future chief engineer of a railway company. Presumably he reported to him about the problem of the planned 500 m long and 100 m high bridge over the Viaur in southern France , the construction of which was decided in 1876 for the construction of the Carmaux - Rodez railway line , but for which no technical solution has been found for more than 10 years found. When a competition was announced in 1887 for the construction of the Viaduc du Viaur , he submitted, together with the construction company Société des Batignolles, a design for a cantilever bridge, which was widely discussed among experts. It is a framework made of steel with a main span of 220 m, a total length of 410 m and a height above the valley floor of 116 m.

However, all of the proposals submitted were initially rejected by the tendering railway company. Only an expert commission set up by the French Ministry of Transport decided in favor of Bodin's proposal, and in 1895 a ministerial decision was made, whereby construction could begin on May 3, 1895. The model of this Viaur bridge, which is currently under construction, was also presented at the Paris World Exhibition in 1889 and received a lot of attention there. The bridge was completed in 1902 and handed over on October 5, 1902.

In 1903 Bodin became president of an architecture school and president of the Association of French Civil Engineers.

He had married Marie-Louise Theodora Gorguos in 1882 and they had a son together.

Honors

He was appointed officer of the French Legion of Honor for his architectural achievements and in honor of his teaching activities .
