Paul Barz

Paul Barz (born August 28, 1943 in Leslau / Włocławek ; † June 5, 2013 in Wentorf near Hamburg ) was a German writer and journalist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Hamburg and completing an apprenticeship as a publishing company, Barz worked as an editor for Westermanns Monatshefte until 1981 . Since 1981 he has worked as a freelance writer and journalist. He wrote for Die Welt am Sonntag , the Hamburger Abendblatt and the Westdeutsche Zeitung , among others . As a writer he became known through radio plays , non-fiction books and biographies . With books such as The True Schimmelreiter and Storm in Schleswig-Holstein , he proved to be an excellent expert on Theodor Storm , whose Schimmelreiter he dramatized in 1998 for a production by the Ohnsorg Theater . As a playwright, Paul Barz had an international success , especially with Possible Encounter (premiered in Berlin 1985 with Ernst Schröder and Martin Held ), the fictional meeting between Bach and Handel . To date, the play has been shown in over one hundred and twenty productions, translated into fourteen languages and has been part of the repertoire for years in Warsaw and at the Moscow Art Theater . Likewise, a global success in over a dozen languages, the radio version of the Possibilities of a great moment .
