Paul Bassim

Paul Bassim OCD (born November 14, 1922 in Zgharta , Lebanon , † August 21, 2012 ) was Vicar Apostolic of Beirut .

Life

Paul Bassim came from a Maronite- Lebanese family. He joined the order of the Discalced Carmelites and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1946 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on September 8, 1974 Titular Bishop of Laodicea ad Libanum and Vicar Apostolic of Latin Christians in Lebanon, based in Jeita . The Apostolic Nuncio in Lebanon and Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Kuwait , Alfredo Bruniera , donated him episcopal ordination on November 24 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Nasrallah Pierre Sfeir , Auxiliary Bishop in Antioch , and Bonaventure Akiki OFM , Vicar Apostolic of Aleppo .

Bassim was a member of the Conference of Latin Bishops in the Arab Regions . Among other things, he was responsible for pastoral care for Afro-Asian migrants (PCAAM) who lived as migrant workers in the Arab regions.

On July 30, 1999, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
