Paul Becker (sports official)

Paul Karl Becker (born December 6, 1897 in Berlin ; † February 6, 1981 there ) was a German communist resistance fighter and sports official . He was Vice President of the German Gymnastics and Sports Association (DTSB).

Life

After going to school, Becker worked as an office assistant and worker. In 1908 he joined the “Fichte” workers 'sports club, and from 1914 on he was a member of the Berlin Workers' Youth Association . From 1916 to 1918 he was a soldier in the First World War .

From 1919 to 1924 clerk at the Berlin magistrate . In 1918 he joined the Central Association of Employees and in 1920 the anarcho-syndicalist FAUD . From 1925 to 1928 he completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter . In 1925 he became a member of the Central Association of Carpenters in the ADGB and in 1928 of the RGO . From 1929 he was a member of the KPD and the combat community for red sports unit . In 1933 he ran a sports publishing house in Halle.

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933, Becker took part in the communist resistance. From April 1934 he was head of the illegal Reich leadership of the combat group for red sports unit. In the same year he was arrested and eight years in 1935 penitentiary convicted, he in Brandenburg prison spent.

From 1945 to 1950 Becker acted as the deputy district mayor in Berlin-Weißensee . In 1946 he became a member of the SED. The delegates' conference of the VVN Weißensee elected him on January 25, 1948 as their 1st chairman. From 1950 to 1957 he worked as an inspector of the People's Police in Berlin, first as head of the cadre department in the VP Presidium, then as head of the VP inspection in Weissensee. From 1957 to 1961 he was Vice-President of the DTSB and from May 1961 to May 31, 1970 Chairman of the Central Revision Commission of the DTSB. He was then an honorary member of the DTSB Presidium.

Most recently he worked in the committee of the anti-fascist resistance fighters . He died at the age of 83 and was buried in the central cemetery in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde .
