Paul Cappelen
Paul Cappelen (* 18th February 1928 ; † 1. February 2016 in New York ) was a Norwegian architect of modernity . He came from the Cappelen family, who came from Bremen and Oldenburg .
In the 1950s and 1960s he won numerous prizes with his architecture firm , which he ran with Torbjørn Rodahl . His designs include the North Cape Hall in Honningsvåg (1958), the SAS Radisson Hotels in Oslo- Fornebu and Bodø (both 1971), the Aspåsen School there (1967) and residential buildings for the Kilimanjaro National Park (1975). Together with the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation ( Norad ), Cappelen also designed schools and residential buildings in the Tanzanian cities of Bagamoyo , Mtwara and Songea . A number of his designs were exhibited at the 14th International Architecture Biennale 2014 in Venice . In an obituary, Einar Dahle (architect and professor at the Technical University of Munich in 1995) emphasized the combination of durable materials with modern Norwegian forms in Cappelen's designs.
