Paul Cazan (born September 30, 1951 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player . The defender denied 464 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A .
Career
The career of Cazan began in 1970 when TM Bucharest in Divizia C . A year later, the Romanian top club Steaua Bucharest signed him , where he was not used in the first half of the 1971/72 season . During the winter break he joined the second division side Chimia Râmnicu Vâlcea .
In the summer of 1972 returned to the capital Cazan back and switched to Sportul Studenţesc in the Divizia A . In the 1972/73 season he became a regular player. He remained loyal to the “students” for 16 years. After two seasons in the relegation battle, he rose with his team in the top group of Divizia A and always fought for a place in the UEFA Cup . In the 1976/77 season he was able to eliminate Olympiacos Piraeus in the first round , but lost to FC Schalke 04 in the second round . Moving into the cup final in 1979 , he achieved his greatest success at home to date, where his team lost 3-0 to Steaua Bucharest. This was only exceeded by the runner-up in 1986 , when he and his team only had to admit defeat to the then European Cup winner Steaua. In the subsequent UEFA Cup competition , Sportul once again made it into the second round, this time against KAA Gent .
In the 1987/88 season Cazan finished after 464 league games for Sportul after he had been promoted to head coach as successor Mircea Rădulescu . He took over the team in last place in the table and led them to relegation. In the season 1994/95 he jumped in for two games when he looked after the team of Sportul on the last day of the game and him relegation game against Corvinul Hunedoara , where he secured the class remainder.
In 2007 he was appointed Managing Director of UTA Arad . After Marcel Coraş resigned as sports director in November 2007, Cazan took over his duties. On June 1, 2008, he resigned from this position for personal reasons.
