Paul Christ (born October 25, 1836 in Chur , † January 14, 1908 in Zurich ) was a Reformed pastor and theologian from Switzerland .

Life

Paul Christ was born on October 25, 1836 in Chur, the son of a lawyer. He attended a school there, where he passed his Matura on Easter 1855 . In 1855/1856 he studied Protestant theology at the University of Tübingen and at the University of Basel . On June 22, 1858 he was in Thusis in the Evangelical-Rhaetian synod ; he was given the right to work as a pastor in the canton.

In the same year he started his first job in Davos , where he also worked in Monstein , Frauenkirch and Glaris from 1859 . After Igis joined Christ in 1860, five years later he became pastor and professor at the Grisons cantonal school in Chur. In the same year he gave up the pastor's post and became rector, which he remained until 1869.

In 1870 he left Graubünden and moved to the canton of St. Gallen. In 1871 he was elected pastor in Lichtensteig . In 1875 he moved to Rheineck . Paul Christ returned to Chur as a pastor in 1880, two years later he was forced to resign because of his health situation.

He spent the years 1882 to 1884 in Andeer unemployed . In 1884 he became archivist in Chur and in 1887 again professor at the canton school. In 1889 he was appointed professor of practical and systematic theology at the University of Zurich . Two years later the university awarded him an honorary theological doctorate , and in 1900/01 he was rector . Paul Christ retired in 1907 and died a year later on January 14, 1908 in Zurich.
