Paul Dick

Paul Wyatt Dick , QC , PC (born October 27, 1940 in Kapuskasing , Ontario ; † May 2, 2018 ) was a Canadian politician of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada , who was a member of the House of Commons between 1972 and 1993 and was temporarily a minister.

Life

Paul Wyatt Dick was after studying law as a lawyer involved and was due to his professional experience at the Attorney-General (Queen's Counsel) appointed. In the general election on October 30, 1972 , he was elected a member of the House of Commons for the progressive-conservative party of Canada in the constituency of Lanark-Renfrew-Carleton with 17,893 votes and was re-elected in this constituency on July 8, 1974 with 18,242 votes. During his membership in parliament between March 1976 and May 1979 he was spokesman for the opposition PCP parliamentary group for consumer and corporate affairs as well as spokesman for youth policy. In the general election on May 22, 1979, he was re-elected to the lower house in the Lanark-Renfrew-Carleton constituency with 24,277 votes and in the subsequent general election on May 18, 1980 with 20,487 votes in this constituency. In the following period he was between September 7, 1983 and September 16, 1984 as Deputy House Leader of the Official Opposition, Deputy Opposition Leader and Deputy Chairman of the Committees of the House of Commons.

In the House of Commons election on September 4, 1984 , Dick was re-elected to the House of Commons with 24,395 votes in the Lanark-Renfrew-Carleton constituency. In the 24th cabinet of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney he then took over his first government office and served as Parliamentary State Secretary to the Minister of State and leader of the government majority in the lower house from November 1, 1984 to February 26, 1985, and from February 27 to February 24, 1985. November 1985 as Parliamentary State Secretary to the President of the Privy Council . He then held the post of Parliamentary State Secretary to the President of the Treasury between November 25, 1985 and June 29, 1986, and then from June 30, 1986 to January 29, 1989, Assistant Minister of Defense.

Paul Dick was re-elected as a member of the House of Commons in the House of Commons election on November 21, 1988 with 27,379 votes in the new Lanark-Carleton constituency. After a cabinet reshuffle, he was Minister for Utilities and Services between January 30, 1989 and June 24, 1993. As a minister, he also became a member of the Canadian Privy Council . In the 25th Cabinet of Prime Minister Kim Campbell , Doug Lewis continued to serve as Secretary of State for Utilities and Services from June 25 to November 3, 1993. In the general election on October 25, 1993 , he ran again for a seat in the lower house in the Lanark-Carleton constituency . However, he received only 16,723 votes and thus missed the re-entry into parliament.
