Paul Frangenheim
Paul Frangenheim (born July 4, 1876 in Bochum , † October 28, 1930 in Cologne ) was a German surgeon .
Life
Frangenheim studied medicine at the Universities of Bonn and Berlin . In 1903 he received his doctorate with a thesis under Ernst von Bergmann . He moved to the Albertus University in Königsberg , where he completed his habilitation in surgery under Erich Lexer in 1908 . In 1911 he followed Lexer's successor Erwin Payr to Leipzig . In 1913 Frangenheim went to Cologne , where he was appointed full professor in 1919 and was appointed director of the surgical university clinic in the municipal Augusta hospital as the successor to Otto Tilmann . He ran the clinic until 1930, when he died of an infection at the age of only 54. His second son, Hans Frangenheim , later became a major German gynecologist .
Frangenheim is buried in the family grave in Cologne's Melaten cemetery .
Act
Scientifically, Frangenheim dealt particularly with diseases of the skeleton , but also urological issues such as cryptorchidism (inguinal testicles) and published a special technique of nephropexy for the treatment of migrating kidneys . The Goebell-Stoeckel-Frangenheim operation for the treatment of female urinary incontinence was named after him, the surgeon Rudolf Goebell and the gynecologist Walter Stoeckel . He thus continued the urological-surgical tradition of Bernhard Bardenheuer , who performed the first total cystectomy in Cologne on January 13, 1887.
Honor
In the Cologne district of Lindenthal , the work of Paul Frangenheim was honored by naming Frangenheimstrasse .
