Paul Grégoire
Paul Cardinal Grégoire OC (born October 24, 1911 in Verdun , Canada , † October 30, 1993 in Montréal ) was Archbishop of Montréal .
Life
Paul Grégoire completed his studies in Montréal with a degree in theology and literary studies , with doctorates in philosophy and history and a diploma in pedagogy . In 1937 he received the sacrament of ordination and, after further years of study, became director of the seminary in Blanville in 1942 . From 1944 to 1950 he also taught at the Pedagogical Institute and at a secondary school in Montréal. From 1950 to 1961 he was the university chaplain for university students in Montréal.
On October 26, 1961, Pope John XXIII appointed him . the titular bishop of Curubis and auxiliary bishop in Montreal. He was ordained episcopal on December 27th of the same year by the Archbishop of Montréal, Cardinal Paul-Émile Léger PSS . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Saint-Jérôme , Émilien Frenette , and the Coadjutor Bishop of Valleyfield , Percival Caza . From 1967 he also took on the role of vicar general .
On April 20, 1968, Pope Paul VI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Montréal. Pope John Paul II accepted Paul Grégoire into the college of cardinals in 1988 as a cardinal priest with the titular church Nostra Signora del Santissimo Sacramento e dei Santi Martiri Canadesi . In 1993 Paul Grégoire died in Montréal and was buried in the local cathedral .
Grégoire attended the fourth session of the Second Vatican Council as a council father. In 1968 he was accepted into the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Tisserant . In 1979 he was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada .
