Carlo Grano

Carlo Cardinal Grano (born October 14, 1887 in Rome , Italy ; † April 2, 1976 ibid) was a Vatican diplomat and cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Carlo Grano studied in Rome the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology and received on 14 June 1912, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He then worked as a parish priest in the Diocese of Rome until 1920 . From 1920 to 1923 he was extraordinary papal ceremonial . He then entered the service of the Vatican State Secretariat . From 1945 to 1953 he was the papal chief of protocol, from 1953 to 1958 he worked in various functions for the accounting department of the Vatican.

1958 appointed Pope John XXIII. him titular Archbishop of Thessalonica and Apostolic Nuncio in Italy. The Pope himself donated his episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Girolamo Bartolomeo Bortignon , Bishop of Padua , and Gioacchino Muccin , Bishop of Feltre e Belluno . Pope Paul VI accepted him in 1967 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Marcello in the college of cardinals .

Carlo Grano died in Rome on April 2, 1976 and was buried in his titular church.
