Paul Löffler (born January 15, 1920 in Mannheim , † 1995 in Speyer) was a German painter and graphic artist . He created naturalistic portraits in oil as well as abstract form compositions using the technique of etching , still lifes in watercolor technique as well as pencil and ink drawings of classical subjects, aquatint etchings of landscapes and gouaches of abstract bodies.

Life

After graduating from high school, Löffler was drafted into the Reich Labor Service , where, in addition to performing labor service on large construction projects, he underwent pre-military training with a lot of drill. Wei his Abitur class he took part in the entire Second World War from 1939 to 1945. After the war, Paul Löffler discovered that not only had hardly any of his original paratrooper unit survived, but also only a handful of schoolmates from his high school graduation.

From 1945 he learned graphics from Landmann and life drawing from Carl Trummer . In 1949 he studied painting technique with Wilhelm Herberholz and in 1949/1950 art history with J. Heinrich Schmidt .

From 1950 on he worked as a freelance graphic artist and painter in Mannheim. His work soon found recognition, so in 1951, 1953 and 1954 he received the Art Prize of the Friends of Fine Art in Munich and the Art Prize of the Baden-Baden Youth in 1955.

1961–1963 he continued his education in the USA . From 1963 to 1971 he taught at the Mannheim Evening Academy . In 1964/65 he also worked as an art teacher at the Tulla-Gymnasium and the Bach-Gymnasium in Mannheim. From 1971 he worked as an art teacher at the Palatinate Institute for the hearing-impaired in Frankenthal.

Dr. Herbert Ludwig Breiner wrote in the brochure of the Mannheimer Kunstverein Paul Löffler on the 1987 exhibition: “Anyone who sees his works in the sequence in which they were created has recently recognized features of melancholy and melancholy that stand out from pictures with features of cheerful and carefree, that arise in cooperation with children and young people. In dealing with the creativity of the child and especially that of the deaf child, Paul Löffler developed into one of the most important art teachers of our time through his work at the Mannheim grammar school and at the Palatinate Institute for the Hearing Language Disabled in Frankenthal. In many exhibitions in which he was involved as a freelance artist and at the same time also gave the child space to display, in many competitions with first prizes at the federal level, great skill as an art teacher was recognized.
