Paul L. Mendy

Paul L. Mendy (born September 24, 1958 in Kunkujang ; † June 3, 2013 in Serekunda ) was a politician in the West African state of Gambia .

Life

Mendy was appointed manager of Kanilai Farm, President Yahya Jammeh's country estate in Kanilai , in March 2011 .

At the beginning of June 2013 Mendy died in the Serekunda Hospital in Serekunda - Kanifing , he was honored with a state ceremony in the National Assembly on June 7th before he was transferred to his hometown of Kunkujang and buried there. Opposition media reported that Mendy was in custody when he died. He was charged with alleged financial embezzlement at Kanilai Family Farm Ltd.

In the 1997 general election , he stood in the Kombo South constituency as a candidate for the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) for a seat in the National Assembly and won the constituency. The parliamentary elections in 2002 were largely boycotted by the opposition parties, so there was no opponent of UDP in the Kombo South constituency, Mendy won the constituency without a fight. In 2007 Mendy defended his constituency against the non-party candidate Abdou Kolley in the general election ; unopposed, Mendy regained a seat in the National Assembly in the 2012 parliamentary elections .

Until March 2012, Mendy was a member of several committees in the National Assembly, including: for the National Assembly Authority, the Public Appointments, Standing Orders Committee, Privileges and Ethics and the Tourism Committee, Kultur und Sport (Select Committee on Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports). Mendy also had a mandate for the parliament of the West African Economic Community (ECOWAS), he was the leader of this delegation.
