Paul Laufs

Paul Laufs (born June 22, 1938 in Tuttlingen ) is a German engineer and politician ( CDU ).

From 1991 to 1993 he was Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and from 1993 to 1997 at the Federal Minister for Post and Telecommunications .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Rottweil in 1957 , Laufs studied mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering at the Technical University of Munich and the University of Stuttgart , which he completed in 1963 as a graduate engineer. He then worked as an assistant at the Institute for Aerodynamics and Gas Dynamics at the University of Stuttgart. In 1967 he was with the work "Compressible, frictionless thread flows with moving boundary" to Dr. Ing. PhD . Afterwards he was a lecturer for hypersonic flows at the Institute for Aerodynamics and Gas Dynamics at the University of Stuttgart until 1973 . From 1967 to 1976 Laufs was also an employee of IBM Germany in Stuttgart. Since May 1998 he has been an honorary professor at the University of Stuttgart. In 2006 he was awarded a doctorate at the University of Stuttgart for his work "The development of safety technology for nuclear power plants in the political and technical environment of the Federal Republic of Germany since 1955". phil. PhD.

Paul Laufs is married and has five children. He has been a member of the Catholic student union KDStV Aenania Munich in the CV since 1958 .

In 1997 he was honored with the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .

Political party

He has been a member of the CDU since 1963. From 1971 he was chairman of the state committee for environmental protection of the CDU in Baden-Württemberg . In addition, he still belongs to the district executive committee of the CDU Rems-Murr - now as an honorary member.

MP

From 1979 to 1984 Laufs was a member of the district council of the Rems-Murr district .

From 1976 to 2002 he was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1986 to 1988 he was chairman of the parliamentary group on the environment, nature conservation and reactor safety and from 1988 to 1991 deputy chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group .

Paul Laufs has always entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the Waiblingen constituency .

Public offices

December 18, 1991 was run as Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of the Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl led government appointed. On the occasion of a cabinet reshuffle, he changed to the Federal Minister for Post and Telecommunications on January 21, 1993 in the same function. With the dissolution of the Federal Post Office on December 31, 1997, Laufs left office.
