Paul Lorenger

Paul Lorenger (born October 18, 1958 in Detroit ) is an American dancer and choreographer .

life and work

Lorenger u. a. at Rachel Lampert in New York , who combined postmodern dance with theatrical elements. Engaged by the Scapino Ballet in Amsterdam, he moved to Europe. Further stations were Mark Morris' dance theater in Brussels and from 1994 with Vivienne Newport in Germany. In 1996 - as part of the Pierre Audi production of Henze's Venus and Adonis at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich - there was an encounter with Min Tanaka and the Japanese Butoh , which he then studied with Ko Murobushi .

Lorenger has been working together for many years with the German opera director Claus Guth , who has been using him since 1999 as the alter ego of his titular heroes or as a mysterious figure in scenic representations of oratorios. Lorenger has appeared in Guth productions at the Salzburg Festival, in Basel and Munich, at La Scala in Milan and at the Theater an der Wien , in Barcelona and Zurich . Iphigénie en Tauride , Zaide and Messiah have also been recorded for television.
