Paul Miron

Paul Miron (* 13. June 1926 in Boroaia , Suceava County ; † 17th April 2008 in Freiburg , Germany ) was a Romanian linguist , Rumänist and writer who has worked as a German university teachers and mediators between the two countries.

life and work

Miron was born in West Moldova , went to school in Fălticeni , left his home after the Soviet invasion, was seriously wounded near Berlin, spent two years in hospitals and then studied in Cologne and Bonn (1947–1949) with Ernst Robert Curtius and Paul Menzerath. After a stay in Paris (1949–1951) he received his doctorate in Bonn in 1954 with On the typological structure of Romanian. Comparative research on the typological structure of Romanian within Romania - in a synchronic and diachronic perspective . He came to Freiburg in 1964 as a lecturer for Romanian and completed his habilitation in 1973 with Hans-Martin Gauger in Freiburg on aspects of lexical creativity in Romanian (Frankfurt 1977). From 1977 to 1991 he was an adjunct professor at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg .

Before and after the fall of the Wall, Miron maintained intensive cultural relations with Romania, the Romanian Orthodox Church and the University of Alexandru Ioan Cuza Iași , with whom he worked on the project of a 20-volume edition of the first Romanian Bible ( Biblia 1688 ), which was started in 1986 . He gave the magazines Prodromos (1961-1970) and Dacoromania. Yearbook for Eastern Latinity (1973–1991, including a supplement 1978). He was Secretary General of the Association of Romanian Orthodox Youth in Germany.

Miron, who also developed extensive writing activity, was an honorary member of the Romanian Writers' Union, an honorary citizen of the cities of Iași and Timișoara , an honorary doctorate from the University of Alexandru Ioan Cuza Iași and the recipient of several Romanian awards. He was married to Elsa Lüder. His grave is in Vama Veche .
