Paul Nguyên Thanh Hoan

Paul Nguyên Thanh Hoan ( Vietnamese : Phaolô Nguyễn Thanh Hoan ; born November 11, 1939 in Phi Lộc, Diễn Châu district, Nghệ An province ; † August 18, 2014 ) was a Vietnamese clergyman and bishop of Phan Thiết .

Life

Paul Nguyên Thanh Hoan attended the minor seminary (1949–1954) and the school seminar (1954–1957). After attending a monastery school from 1957 to 1959, he studied philosophy and theology at the seminary of Xuân Bích from 1959 to 1965 . On April 29, 1965 he was ordained a priest in the Basilica of Our Lady of Saigon and was subsequently vicar in Ðông Hà, Quảng Trị. In 1967 he founded an orphanage and a private school in Ðắc Lộ for war orphans from the Vietnam War . In 1968 he completed a degree in pedagogy at the University of Huế . In 1972 he founded the orphan village Bồ Câu Trắng (White Dove). From 1975 to 1999 he was director of the pilgrimage site in Hàm Tân.

Pope John Paul II appointed him coadjutor bishop of Phan Thiết on July 4, 2001 . He was ordained episcopate on August 11, 2001 by the Bishop of Phan Thiết, Nicolas Huynh Van Nghi ; Co- consecrators were Pierre Nguyễn Văn Nhơn , bishop of Đà Lạt , and Thomas Nguyên Van Trâm , auxiliary bishop in Xuân Lộc . After retirement Nicolas Huynh Van Nghis he followed him on 1 April 2005 as bishop of Phan Thiet after.

Paul Nguyên Thanh Hoan was from 2001 to 2006 in the Vietnamese Episcopal Conference chairman of the social committee and bishop for Caritas in Vietnam. On July 25, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation.
