Paul Philipp Röber (born July 21, 1632 in Wittenberg , † September 7, 1696 in Freiberg ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

Paul Philipp was the son of the Wittenberg theologian Paul Röber and his wife Maria Hahn. After surviving the plague in 1637, his father hired private tutors for his training. He continued this education at the city school in Wittenberg and attended the Rutheneum grammar school in Gera when he was eighteen . In the winter semester of 1652 he enrolled at the University of Leipzig to study theology. Here he was initially in the household of Daniel Henrici (1615–1666) and then moved to the Johann Hülsemann household , where he also made the acquaintance of Johann Adam Schertzer as a roommate. After completing his first university disputation under Jakob Thomasius in 1654, he moved to the University of Wittenberg .

On April 26, 1655, he acquired the degree of master's degree in philosophy there. When he had continued his theological studies with Johannes Meisner , Abraham Calov , Johannes Scharff and Andreas Kunad , he was given a pastor's position in Ortrand in 1658 . In 1662 he moved to a pastor's position at the St. Jakobikirche in Freiberg . In order to be able to cope with further challenges, he obtained a licentiate in theology in Wittenberg on July 5, 1671. Then he took over the position of pastor and superintendent of the Freiberg church district at Freiberg cathedral . In order to meet the requirements of the office, he received his doctorate in theology on April 20, 1675 in Wittenberg.
