Paul Zastupnevich

Paul DN Zastupnevich (born December 24, 1921 in Homestead , Pennsylvania , † May 9, 1997 in Rancho Mirage , California ) was an American costume designer .

Live and act

Paul Zastupnevich first attended Homestead High School in his native city and then the Carnegie Institute of Technology, a college specializing in engineering in Pittsburgh . He earned a bachelor's degree from Duquesne University and a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh . He made his first experiences in costume design at the Pittsburgh Civic Ballet and at Gene Kelly's Pitt Cap and Gown Show . He then studied fashion design at the Louise Salinger School of Dress Design in Pittsburg.

During his military service he was involved as a costume designer in theater performances at Fort Benning . These included pieces like Oklahoma , Separate Rooms and The Man Who Came to Dinner . Zastupnevich moved to Hollywood in the mid-1940s . He worked as a costume designer and theater actor at the Pasadena Playhouse for around ten years .

Through a meeting with actress Rhonda Fleming , Zastupnevich got into the crew of Irwin Allen's circus film The Big Circus (1959), for which he designed the costumes. Starting with this film debut, he worked with Allen for over 30 years, both as a costume designer and as a production assistant. Among other things, he furnished the disaster films The Poseidon's Infernal Journey , The Day on which the World Ended and The Deadly Swarm and was awarded Oscar nominations for this. He also worked on Allen's television productions such as the SF series Lost Between Alien Worlds . Her television film Alice in Wonderland received five Emmy nominations in 1986 , one of them for Zastupnevich's costume design. At this time his film career ended.

Zastupnevich later worked as a freelance fashion designer, including designing ball gowns for Olivia de Havilland . He ran the boutique The House of Z with his sister Olga . In 1994 he became the co-founder and president of the Irwin Allen News Network (IANN), which is dedicated to promoting and disseminating Irwin Allen's work.

In 1997 Paul Zastupnevich died of cancer at Rancho Mirage. He was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood .
