action

The somewhat shabby captain Mike Turner travels with his old friend Wilbur Hubbard and the young Celeste Whitman to the cruise ship Poseidon, which capsized in the Mediterranean . The aim of the three is to gain access to the paymaster's office and to get the jewels there into their possession. At the scene of the accident, the three meet the modern team of the elegant Stefan Svevo. Both pretend to be looking for survivors. Both Turner and Svevo's crew gain access to the ship, which is floating up the keel thanks to an air bubble.

Turner and his crew arrive at the purser's office and ransack the safe. They also soon meet the first survivors of the disaster. These include the spirited passenger Frank Mazzetti, who lost sight of his daughter Theresa during the accident, the attractive and mysterious Suzanne, the wine waiter Dewey Hopkins, who poses as a worldly millionaire in order to be rescued, as well as the ship nurse Gina Rowe and the elderly couple Meredith. Harold Meredith is blind and dependent on outside help. The group also encounters the missing Theresa and her teenage friend, the elevator operator Larry Simpson, who join her.

During the "rescue operation", Svevo turns out to be a terrorist who brought about the accident with the help of the passenger Suzanne. His goal was to get a load of plutonium transported on the ship . He has his assistant killed and plans to eliminate Turner, Wilbur, Celeste and the surviving passengers as involuntary confidants. However, Turner and Celeste manage to escape with a handful of survivors from the wreck, which continues to sink due to explosions and inflowing water. The sick Wilbur, Mazzetti, Hannah Meredith and Dewey are killed. Svevo and his team are also killed when the ship explodes. Mike Turner, who has fallen in love with Celeste, travels with her, some of the looted jewels and the rest of the survivors towards Athens .

Reviews

“A gentle follow-up to the disaster films of the seventies, especially when it comes to animation. The drawing of the figures follows the common clichés all too superficially. As an action adventure, however, sometimes amusing. "

“What is remarkable about this miserable infusion is that Michael Caine remains serious all the time. - The plot drowns faster than the boat. "
