biography

Paul Ritter von Airoldi 1854

Airoldi came from a very old Milanese family, in the collections of the Ambrosian Library even referred to as Lombard origin. He joined the Austrian army from the French, where he was used by the Venetian-Lombard bodyguard and in 1825 was captain in Infantry Regiment No. 38 in Graz . He was promoted to major in the same regiment (Haugwitz) on July 1, 1830.

The officer was promoted to colonel and commander of this 38th Lombard line infantry regiment in Brescia under Eugen Graf von Haugwitz as early as 1837 . On September 1, 1839, he was promoted to lieutenant of the Imperial Lombard-Venetian Noble Life Guard. As such and kk colonel, he received the hereditary-Austrian knighthood on November 7, 1840 (diploma from December 17 of that year).

On July 16, 1841, he was appointed major general and on October 1, 1842, he was appointed first lieutenant of the said Guard.

With the rank of March 27, 1848 Airoldi advanced to the kk field marshal lieutenant as well as division general and military commander of Linz. Since 1850 he was the owner of Infantry Regiment No. 23. From September 1851 to February 1853 he was in command of the 3rd Army Corps with two divisions and five brigades in Theresienstadt , then a division officer of the 3rd Army Corps and military commander of Graz . In 1854 he was decorated with the Commander's Cross of the Austrian-Imperial Leopold Order and as a result raised to the status of Herbländisch-Austrian baron on June 19 of the same year, in 1855 the old Lombard nobility was confirmed to him.

According to the military schematism of the Austrian empire of 1858, Paul served as the chief steward of Emperor Ferdinand I. He held this office from 1858 to 1870. During this time he was awarded the title of a Privy Councilor as early as 1856 with the Grand Cross of the royal Saxon Albrechts- Order , then honored with the Grand Cross of the Grand Ducal Hessian Order of Philipps .

The baron finally received the title of Feldzeugmeister ad honores on November 5, 1864 and retired. Of his numerous decorations , in addition to the three listed above, the Knight's Cross of the Parma Order of Constantine George for military merit and the Grand Cross of the Order of the Eagle of Estes should be mentioned.
