Career

Paula Reichsgräfin von Lamberg (born September 21, 1887 at Lebenberg Castle near Kitzbühel , †  September 4, 1927 in Berchtesgaden ) was a pioneer of ladies' ski jumping (nickname: "the flying countess").

Paula von Lamberg was a daughter of Hugo Anton Emil Reichsgraf von Lamberg , baron on Ortenegg and Ottenstein (* 1853 in Schichowitz , † 1913 in Kitzbühel), and Giulietta Contessa Brunetti (1857-1941). Her grandfather was Gustav Joachim von Lamberg .

In 1911 she achieved the sensational jump distance of 22 meters on the Schattbergschanze in Kitzbühel "in a long skirt and impeccable posture".

From 1885 on, Lebenberg Castle was partially used as a guesthouse - one of the first in Kitzbühel - and over time it was expanded into a hotel.

Paula only survived her marriage to Franz Valentin Grafen Schlick (1882–1963), who among other things worked as a racing car driver. During the sidecar race organized by the Bavarian Automobile Club at Berchtesgadner Salzberg on September 4, 1927 (she was apparently a co-driver), the car came off the lane and Countess Schlick was thrown out of the car, fatally injured.
