NASCAR Sprint Cup 2010
The NASCAR Sprint Cup 2010 began on February 6, 2010 with the Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway followed by the 52nd Daytona 500 on February 15, 2010. The Chase for the Sprint Cup began on September 19, 2010 with the Sylvania 300 on the New Hampshire Motor Speedway . The season ended on November 21, 2010 with the Ford 400 as part of the Ford Championship Weekend . Jimmie Johnson won the 2010 Sprint Cup.
Attendees
Each Sprint Cup race in the 2010 season had a maximum field of 43 cars. The first 35 Owner Points (score of the respective owners of a racing car) in 2009 were guaranteed a starting place in the first five races of the 2010 season. If a driver switched from a team to a new team within the first 35 of the Owner Points, the team no longer had a guaranteed starting place unless it was also placed in the Top 35 of the Owner Points. However, if a former champion was not in the top 35 and did not manage to qualify for the race, he could fall back on a so-called Past Champion Provisional, which guaranteed him a starting place. However, since the 2007 season, the Past Champion Provisionals have been limited to a number of six races per season.
