Monster Energy NASCAR Cup 2017

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup 2017 season began on February 18, 2017 with the Daytona Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway . The first race was the Advance Auto Parts Clash invitation race , which was held on February 18, 2017, but was postponed to February 19 due to rain; followed by the two Can-Am Duels . The duels are the qualifying races for the Daytona 500 , in which pole position and starting position 2 are determined.

The Daytona 500 , the first point race of the season, took place on February 26, 2017. The Chase for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup started on September 17, 2017 with the Chicagoland 400 at the Chicagoland Speedway . The season finale was held on November 19th with the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway .

The season was won by first-time champion Martin Truex Jr. in a Furniture Row Toyota . It was the last season for Dale Earnhardt Jr. , Danica Patrick and Matt Kenseth .

All races took place in the United States . The races at Sonoma Raceway and Watkins Glen International were the only ones that were not held on oval courses .
