Pavel Kříž (born April 18, 1961 in Brno ) is a Czech actor and psychotherapist .

Life

Pavel Kříž already played in the theater during his youth. After graduating from school, he originally wanted to study medicine, but was not given a place to study because of his behavior that did not conform to the system, so he decided to study acting at the Prague Conservatory . During his studies he made his debut in 1981 with the two films flower garden for children and daisies for the lady of the castle . He had his great national breakthrough in 1982, when the director Dušan Klein cast him for the role of Stepán Safránek in his comedy How the world comes to its poets . His portrayal made him a star in the Czech Republic and a female teen idol. He played the role two more times until 1987 and three more times after 1993.

In 1987 his illegal departure to the West caused a sensation. Kříž resigned in 1988 and emigrated via England to Vancouver , Canada . He was threatened with five years in prison with a return. It only partially returned with a regime change in the early 1990s. During this time he had successfully graduated as a psychotherapist from the University of British Columbia and got married.

In Canada he was also able to establish himself as an actor and played in Canadian and US productions such as Dune - Der Wüstenplanet , Anne Frank and Mission: Impossible - Phantom Protocol . While he played a minor supporting role there, he was able to establish himself in the Czech Republic thanks to his earlier popularity as an actor for larger roles. He himself played in films such as The Twelve Months and The Devil's Beloved , as well as for a long time in the soap opera Ulice .

In Canada, Kříž married the American animator Bonnie Glover. After her death he returned to the Czech Republic, where he remarried.
