Pays d'Ussel
The Pays d'Ussel is a traditional French landscape in the northeast of the Corrèze department . It is located in historic Limousin and is part of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region .
geography
The Pays d'Ussel, German landscape of Ussel , surrounds the name-giving city of Ussel , seat of a sub-prefecture in the Corrèze department ( Arrondissement Ussel ). It is located on the eastern slope of the Plateau de Millevaches .
The following natural areas surround the Pays d'Ussel:
- the Montagne limousine in the west and north
- the Combraille and the Artense in the east
- the Dordogne limousine in the south.
Administratively, the Pays d'Ussel corresponds to the Arrondissement of Ussel with the Canton of Ussel and the Haute-Corrèze Communauté community .
Geomorphologically, the Pays d'Ussel is a leveled and slightly south-sloping plateau, which is on average 600 meters above sea level and oscillates between 700 and 500 meters.
Hydrography
In the extreme southeast, the plateau of the Pays d'Ussel is just touched by the Dordogne , which drains in a southwest direction to the Aquitaine basin . To the Dordogne, the Diège and Triouzoune flow on the right through the Pays d'Ussel in a south-south-east direction. Like the Dordogne, both rivers cut their way into the Variscan bedrock in their lower reaches .
geology
Geologically, the Pays d'Ussel belongs entirely to the crystalline basement of the western Massif Central . Upcoming are mica slate , gneiss , migmatite and granite . Gneiss and Migmatite ( Sornac-Migmatite ) belong to the crystalline series of the middle Dordogne , which was intruded by granites such as the Ussel granite - a peraluminous sub-carbonic granite. To the east, the terran is bounded by the north- northeast trending Sillon houiller - one of the most important faults in the Massif Central, which separates the entire western from the central part. To the northeast runs the La Courtine Fault , also a very important southeast trending dextral shift. It limits the terran opposite the mica schists and migmatites of the Chavanon series and Ussel series in the northeast.
