Adams & Adams , 1857

The Pectinida ( "scallop-like" ), also written Pectinoida in older publications , are an order of mussels (Bivalvia) from the infraclass Pteriomorphia within the Autolamellibranchiata . It is an exclusively marine group of mussels. The oldest Pectinida appear already in the Silurian .

characterization

The housings of the Pectinida are always more or less equally-valued (pteroidea) or also equally-valued (pinnoidea). The shell consists of an inner layer with aragonitic , mother-of-pearl microstructures and an outer, calcitic layer made up of simple prisms. In some groups this calcitic position is absent. The castle is largely reduced. The anterior sphincter is usually more or less significantly reduced. Most forms have a byssus . A foot is developed and remains during the entire ontogeny (in contrast to the Ostreida ). Tentacles are formed on the edge of the mantle.

Way of life

The Pectinida are exclusively marine mussels, which are mostly attached to the substrate with the help of organic byssus , are cemented with the right flap or lie freely on the sediment .

Systematics

The order Pectinida is not yet generally recognized, but is z. T. still placed on the order Ostreida . According to more recent phylogenetic studies, this order is only a superfamily of the Pteriida . The relationships between Pteriida, Limida and Pectinida have not yet been clarified. According to Bieler & Mikkelsen (2006) the order Pectinida contains four (recent) superfamilies. The family structure follows the MolluscaBase.

In addition, there are other, exclusively fossil-fueled superfamilies, some of which are insecure:
