Pella is a settlement in the Namakwa District , in the Northern Cape Province in South Africa . 2470 people live in an area of 477.83 square kilometers (as of 2011), according to another source up to 8000 inhabitants.
More than 96 percent of Pella residents are colored and speak Afrikaans .
history
The place was founded in 1814 by British missionaries of the London Missionary Society under his name. Previously, Pella was known to the Nama and Khoisan as Cammas Fonteyn . Homeless Khoisan from Namibia who were looking for a new home among Jager Africans after the loss of the battles in Namaqualand , settled here.
The city was named after Pella , the site of the historic flight of Christians across the Jordan .
Pella is the birthplace and place of life of historically important personalities, including the captains of the Witbooi , Kibo and Hendrik .

Pella is particularly popular with tourists for its cathedral . This was built in 1894 by the brothers in faith of Francis de Sales in neo-Gothic style .
