Peltophorum is a genus of plants within the legume family (Fabaceae). No German name has apparently been used for the genus so far. For the two species Peltophorum africanum from Africa and Peltophorum pterocarpum from Southeast Asia to Northern Australia, the common German names "Gelber Flammenbaum" are used.

The Peltophorum species grow as stately trees. The leaves are bipinnate with many relatively small pinnate leaves . The stipules fall off early.

The flowers are in terminal, racemose or paniculate inflorescences . The bracts are shed early. The hermaphrodite flowers are five-fold with a double flower envelope . The five sepals are somewhat unequal. The five petals are somewhat unequal. There are ten free stamens with hairy stamens at the base. The flat and elongated legumes each contain one to four flat seeds.

The distribution of the genus Peltophorum ranges from the tropical to subtropical areas of America , Africa and Southeast Asia to northern Australia .
