Penrose Medal

The Penrose Medal is a major award from the Geological Society of America for service to the advancement of the earth sciences. It was donated by RAF Penrose, Jr. in 1927 .

Important geological research, outstanding original contributions or achievements that represent great progress in geology are to be particularly rewarded. The prize is awarded by a committee regardless of nationality. The awardees are not necessarily members of the Geological Society of America.

There is also a Penrose Gold Medal from the Society of Economic Geologists .
