Percy Jones (* 3. December 1947 in Llandrindod Wells , Wales) is a British fusion musicians ( bass guitar ) and music producer who primarily as a member of the band Brand X was known. He is considered an outstanding player of the fretless electric bass .

Live and act

Jones initially belonged to the band The Liverpool Scene (around Adrian Henri ), with whom he recorded several albums as a bassist between 1968 and 1970. In 1974 he was one of the founders of Brand X and initially stayed with the band until 1980, only to participate again between 1992 and 1999. He also played bass on Brian Eno's albums Another Green World (1975), Before and After Science (1977) and Music for Films (1978) and was briefly part of Soft Machine . Then he worked with Jon Hassell , Elliott Sharp , David Sylvian and L. Shankar .

Now living in New York City, he recorded his solo album Cape Catastrophe in 1988 and 1989 . In 1990 he performed with his Percy Jones Ensemble , which included Shankar, guitarist Jeff Llewelyn, singer Joe Sofia, keyboardist Anton Sanko , and drummers Sterling Campbell and Mike Clark (album Propeller Music , 1990). Later in the 1990s he also directed the fusion band Tunnels , on whose third album Progressivity (2002) Brand-X guitarist John Goodsall and Mark Feldman were involved. He can also be heard on albums by Richard Barbieri , Roy Harper , Suzanne Vega and Scott McGill .
