Anton Sanko
Anton Sanko (born July 4, 1960 in New York City ) is an American film composer , music arranger and music producer.
Life
Sanko was born and raised in New York. After leaving school, he studied music theory and composition at New York University . He also took guitar lessons from Ralph Towner . He earned his living at this time by performing in nightclubs in Manhattan .
After graduating, he worked for a longer period as a guitarist, keyboardist, arranger and producer with Suzanne Vega . This collaboration resulted in several successful songs, Vegas albums Solitude Standing (1987) and Days of Open Hand (1990). Solitude Standing received seven Grammy nominations and Days of Open Hand received a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package . With this studio album, for which Philip Glass wrote the string arrangements, their long-term collaboration ended.
He came to film music through the director Jonathan Demme , whom he met while working with Vega. Demme hired him as a composer for his documentary film Cousin Bobby . Sanko also wrote the music for Demme's documentary One Foot on a Banana Peel, the Other Foot in the Grave .
In his 25-year career as a film composer, he has written the music for around 70 cinema and television films and episodes of TV series. His last film projects were The Seagull - An Unheard of Love (2018, director: Michael Mayer ), Mein Leben mit Amanda (2018, director: Mikhaël Hers ) and Fractured (2019, director: Brad Anderson ).
